Tar Heel Libertarian - January 2024

Volume 3, Issue 15 | January 2024

“There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.” ― John Adams, The works of John Adams (Second President of the United States)

In this Issue...

Happy New Year! We at the Tar Heel Libertarian hope all of our readers had a peaceful, refreshing, and energizing holidays, as we are expecting big things this year! In our January 2024 issue, we highlight a first-of-its-kind Gubernatorial debate featuring LPNC candidates Shannon Bray and Mike Ross, as well as candidates from three other parties, live and on stage. We also hear directly from three of our own excellent candidates this edition.

In our regular columns, Ryan paints a realistic picture of the path we follow when we eschew Liberty. It is not a catastrophic collapse, but a slow descent into stagnation, until the foundation of freedom on which we have accomplished so many great things crumbles away completely. This is reinforced in articles from Joshua Glawson, Rob Yates, and a talk given by Jp Cortez for LPMeck and shared with you. Trevor Miles looks at the pain of constant war financing, and Justin Hinkley finishes off the articles with some positive news, looking at 2A victories in recent decades.

Finally, convention is coming up, including another gubernatorial grilling, and we have lots of good stuff for sale in the LPNC online store, as well as from your fellow Libertarians. We close this issue bringing back the popular book review column.

Send an Email in Defense of Liberty and a Free Press

We need your help.

On September 18, 2023, independent North Carolina journalist Stephen Horn was found guilty of criminal actions for covering the events of January 6 as a journalist. Stephen has released a documentary of his coverage of that day. He has broken several other stories of interest to Liberty warriors in North Carolina, including the illegal targeting and arrest of Monica Ussery and the campaign donation fraud currently being perpetuated by ActBlue in NC, for which he appeared in Season 3 Episode 9 of Liberty iNC.

Stephen is facing sentencing for this trumped-up "crime" early next week. We have the opportunity to express our support for Stephen and show our contempt for those who would weaponize the judicial system as a political bludgeon in disregard for the freedom of the press.

Below is a form letter. If you could copy it, paste it, edit it if needed, and send it to "[email protected]" (Stephen's defense attorney) with your name included, it will be filed on behalf of Stephen and submitted to the judge who will be sentencing him.

Two important things to note:

  • This will be filed publicly, so any personal information you include will be available to anyone researching the case. Please use discretion.

  • This has to be filed by TOMORROW NIGHT, JANUARY 3. Please, send this to Stephen's lawyer immediately, and by tomorrow evening, at the latest.

Reach out if you have any questions, and we will answer them ASAP.

Thank you for all you do for Liberty

Tar Heel Libertarian - December 2023

Volume 3, Issue 15 | December 2023

The Supreme Court has ruled that they cannot have a nativity scene in Washington, D.C. This wasn't for any religious reasons. They couldn't find three wise men and a virgin.” ― Jay Leno

In this Issue...

In our December 2023 issue, Ryan steps back and defers to the candidates who filed to run in 2024. We have 46 candidates running for 44 seats at every level of the government, and we are ecstatic. The first article covers who filed for what offices and what comes next. We also hear from Shannon Bray, one of the two potential candidates vying to be the Libertarian nominee for NC Governor.

In our other feature articles, Rob Yates looks at the meaning of Christmas through a freedom lens, and Joshua Glawson reflects on the tendency of North Carolina to default to statism masked as freedom. Justin gives a first-time buyer guide to purchasing a firearm, and we round things out with an ask for help, a chance to buy some LPNC merch, Liberty iNC season 3, and some convention-related announcements.

Libertarian Party of North Carolina Candidates File for 46 Races

Libertarian Party of North Carolina
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RALEIGH (Dec. 16) - The 2024 election season has officially kicked off and the Libertarian Party of North Carolina (LPNC) has mobilized to give voters a chance to choose prosperity and Liberty. This December, 46 Libertarian candidates filed for 44 races, ranging from the highest office in North Carolina to a number of local elections. There will be two NC Libertarian primaries this year, in addition to the presidential preference poll. Ryan Brown, Chair of the LPNC, said, “It is easy to be proud of what we accomplished today, and we are happy with the results. But I am much more proud of the hard work all our staff and volunteers have put in for months. They built the foundation, and getting these candidates filed is just the first step.

“North Carolinians are sick of partisan fighting. They’re sick of outrageous inflation and the disappearing power of their paychecks. They’re sick of political gamesmanship while their rights are dismissed by people who claim to be our leaders. North Carolina is at a breaking point and Liberty is the only way out. I am honored and humbled to be able to serve this amazing field of candidates, and North Carolina is lucky to have them fighting for us.”
