Libertarian Party of North Carolina Announces Several Libertarian Candidates for 2023 Elections

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 24, 2023 (RALEIGH) – The Libertarian Party of North Carolina (LPNC) is excited to announce 14 Libertarian candidates will be on ballots around the state in this year's fall elections. The group of candidates is dynamic, with a mix of first-timers and seasoned campaign veterans, and the range of offices is broad, including mayor, town board, and city council races.

LPNC Chair Ryan Brown said, “We’re excited with how many people stepped up to run for office, but we’re even more excited about the people who are running. People are sick of watching their livelihood and Liberty be attacked by politicians who often don't feel the pain they are causing others. None of the Libertarians running this year ever wanted to be a politician when they grew up. They’re moms and dads, teachers, lawyers, just normal people like us, but they can’t sit back and do nothing any longer. I am proud to be associated with them, and I’m happy that the state party can offer them so much support.”

LPNC Secretary and Political and Policy Director Dee Watson said, “These candidates represent the end of the first phase of work we have been doing to put an infrastructure in place to recruit, train, and support candidates at every level around the state. But they represent the beginning of implementing our long-term strategy. It’s so exciting to see this vision taking shape, and especially with such a solid group.”

LPNC At-Large Executive Committee Member and Candidates Coordinator Christina Aragues said, “Now the work really begins, but it’s the fun part, too. We have put together excellent resources for candidates, and there’s a ton of knowledge and experience to support the tools we can provide. I can’t wait to watch this election season develop.”

The LPNC will spend the next week working with each candidate to personalize the infrastructure, offer support, and fine tune strategies. All announcements, including events, will be published on the LPNC website and advertised in the newsletter.

Tar Heel Libertarian - July 2023

Volume 3, Issue 10 | July 2023

"God save the Queen, man." ― Joe Biden, current U.S. President

In this Issue...

In our July 2023 issue, we look forward and look back. Ryan shares an old reflection on being Libertarian from the Tar Heel in the 70s, and then asks that everyone get involved with campaign season. This is a common theme with registration only open for another week, and everyone who is running in need of support, volunteers, and donors. As a bonus this month, Art by Karla has allowed us to run her comic on the disgusting Gastonia city government.

Communications Director Rob Yates continues to reflect on a year in the role. Trevor Miles points out the utter tyranny of the Border Patrol and the wayward Supreme Court case supporting that tyranny, and offers solutions. Deborah Reese, proud co-owner of Fox Knob Farm, highlights the issues the state has created for local farmers. And 2A Issues Coordinator Justin Hinckley delivers his best article yet. We round it off with LP in NC and an updated Liberty iNC catalogue.

Tar Heel Libertarian - June 2023

Volume 3, Issue 9 | June 2023

"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." ― Ayn Rand

In this Issue...

In our June 2023 issue, we have our best collection of articles since we started back up last September. Josh shows how insane control is in some of our institutions through an overheard conversation. Eric Rowell exposes police eschewing accountability, Justin tears apart tired analogies in 2A Talk, and Rob reflects on a year as Communications Director. We have a guest OpEd on term limits from the Forward Party, the text from a speech Jared Wall gave at the Mises Club Carolinas recent event, and a fascinating discussion with Bryce Acer in Chair Chats.

We have some hugely important events coming up soon and a new podcast. We remind you that it is about tie to decide if you want to run for office. And we have one of the most poignant and pointed takedowns exposing the direct impact ofwell-intentioned state tyranny, in our discussion with Tate Mayo, Libertarian and Mayor Of Tarboro, NC.

NC Stop Torture Now

The Libertarian Party of NC (LPNC) supports North Carolina Stop Torture Now (NCSTN) as an organization. NCSTN is holding an event which is also sponsored by LPNC.

WHAT: Vigil for Torture Accountability

WHERE: Johnston Regional Airport, home of Aero Contractors, the CIA's "torture taxi" airline

WHEN: Monday, June 26, 2023, 4:00 to 6:00 pm

WHY: June 26 is UN International Day in Solidarity with the Victims of Torture. The U.S. has never held itself accountable for its program of systematic kidnapping and torture in the so-called "war on terror." North Carolina has never acknowledged its vital role in providing pilots and planes to kidnap people and haul them to torture chambers. The CIA used Aero Contractors, its proprietary aviation company headquartered at the Johnston County Airport, for at least 49 of these kidnappings. We insist that the state investigate Aero Contractors, which may still be carrying out human rights abuses using public infrastructure.

PLAN: On June 26, 2023, we will join thousands of people across the U.S. and around the world in demanding that the U.S. close Guantanamo and hold itself accountable for the terrible acts of disappearance and torture it has committed. We will rally from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the corner of Highway 70 and Swift Creek Road, just outside the Johnston County Airport. Then we will process with banners along Swift Creek Road to Aero Contractors' gates at the south edge of the airport.
