A North Carolina State professor said that the university’s recently announced deal with the National Security Agency “helps to normalize the behavior of the surveillance state” and contradicts the school’s values.

The are no abuses of power in the National Defense Authorization Act, or the Patriot Act, or in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act courts, a Libertarian Party spokesman said. The fact that these laws were passed is the abuse.

Jason Melehani, 25, of Durham, was appointed executive director of the Libertarian Party of North Carolina. He will be the principal administrative assistant to the state chair, and oversee all the party's programs and fundraising activities.
