Second Chance to Buy a Free Beer T-shirt

The Libertarian Party of North Carolina, led by activists in Wake County, is still working hard to support our North Carolina brewers and free markets.

The first run of our Libertarian "Free Beer" T-shirt sale was a great success. Thank you for participating. We raised a bit of money for the party, and our message is getting out. A second T-shirt sale just opened up.

A bill filed last week, House Bill 500, would raise the self-distribution barrel limit from 25,000 to 200,000 barrels. This is still a trivial amount compared to what big international brewers distribute and sell in the state. But by raising the limit, our local brewers can continue to grow and compete in a free and fair market. NC brewers won't be forced into a distribution partnership that's bad for their business.

Go here to purchase one today.

So go to the convention website and register today. Don’t forget to call the Lake Lure Inn at (888) 434-4970 to make a room reservation as well. (You must make room reservations by phone.) The Lake Lure Inn has 69 rooms, and we'd like to fill the place with liberty.

Libertarians To Elect Executive Committee

One of the most important, but often underrated, items of business we conduct at our state convention is the election of the executive committee. At the 2017 Libertarian Party of North Carolina State Convention in Lake Lure Aug. 11-13 we’ll be electing the entire membership of the Executive Committee.

This includes chair, vice chair, secretary, treasurer and nine at-large members. The elections will be Sunday morning.

If you are interested in serving in any of these positions, contact Matt Clements, chair of the nominating committee, at [email protected].

The exec comm is responsible for the control and management of all of the affairs, properties, and funds of the party consistent with the bylaws and any resolutions that may have been adopted by the state convention.

The committee meets about six times a year in person. They also hold online meetings and conduct other business online between meetings. The duties of the officers are outlined in the bylaws here. EC members must be LPNC members, as defined in the bylaws (Article III) and must be registered to vote as Libertarian or unaffiliated.

Current officers are listed here. Please email any of them or state chair Brian Irving, if you have any questions.

Libertarians Support Torture Inquiry Commission

In the years following 9/11, North Carolina was used as a staging ground to launch flights that picked up suspected terrorists abroad and transported them to CIA "black sites" and third-party countries where they were illegally detained and tortured.

NCCIT.jpgDeclassified documents and news reports have confirmed that the CIA front company Aero Contractors, headquartered here, used North Carolina's aviation infrastructure and public airports to launch these "torture taxi" flights in support of the United States' Rendition, Detention, and Interrogation (RDI) program.

The North Carolina Commission of Inquiry on Torture is a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating and establishing public accountability for the role that North Carolina's government and state resources played in helping to facilitate the U.S. torture program.
