LPNC Expresses Strong Disagreement with the NCSBE Decision, Redux, Calls for Resignations

July 10, 2024 (RALEIGH) – For the second time in as many weeks, the Libertarian Party of North Carolina (LPNC) is deeply disappointed, though hardly surprised, with the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) decision yesterday to limit the choices of the people of North Carolina in keeping the We the People Party and the Justice for All Party off the ballot in North Carolina. We call for the immediate resignations of Alan Hirsch, Siobhan O’Duffy Millen, and Jeff Carmon for their clear loyalty to partisan ploys to help their candidate over loyalty to the people of North Carolina. 

Both the We the People Party and the Justice for All Party obtained far more signatures than the Constitution Party, which received approval and recognition. The three Democrats on the Board continue to stonewall efforts by the Justice for All Party and the We the People Party to gain ballot access, second guessing the intentions of voters in doing so. Their arguments to prolong the process are spurious and meandering, at best, and the excessive and undue influence of outside law firms and superPACs is both apparent and obviously irredeemable.

Our Chair sent the Board a letter, with over twenty signatories representing six other parties in North Carolina from across the political spectrum, urging the Board to fulfill its duties and recognize all three new parties. The Democrats on the Board ignored this letter, like they ignore the will of the people who signed the petitions, and it is time for them to step down. 

"I really don't know what else to there is to say about this," said Ryan Brown, State Chair of the LPNC. "We wrote them a letter where we gave them the benefit of the doubt. They wanted time to cross their 'T's and dot their 'I's. Not that they needed it, but fine, it was only two weeks for due diligence. Now, they are letting this hang indefinitely, promising only a 'prompt' review, though the elections are approaching quickly. My prediction is this ends up in the courts, and the Democrats are going to lose badly, again. I hope they recognize these parties right away and prove me wrong."

"Remember when Roy Cooper fought like hell in the courts to make sure unaffiliated voters, which is the biggest voter block in North Carolina, would have no representation on the Board of Elections?" added LPNC Communications Director Rob Yates. "Or remember when the Democrats lost a significant court case for doing this exact same thing to Matthew Hoh and the Green Party just a few years ago? Or remember when the Democrats refused all but one name on the presidential preference primary ballot? It seems that Joe Biden isn't the only person in the Democrat Party who has no memory left. But even our braindead president had enough sense to cut ties with the Elias Law Firm and its quest to destroy representative government. The Democrats have no standing whatsoever to claim to be the party of democracy anymore."

The NCSBE claims it will vote on this issue sometime soon. The LPNC calls on the dissenting NCSBE members to resign and the Board to immediately recognize both those parties.

To the Members of the North Carolina State Board of Elections,

I, Ryan Brown, Chair of the Libertarian Party of North Carolina (LPNC), am writing on behalf of the LPNC, as well as other non-major parties and unaffiliated voters, to implore you to take advantage of the opportunity you have today to reverse an egregiously anti-representative decision you made on June 26 when you did not accept the requests by the Justice for All Party, the We the People Party, and the Constitution Party to be recognized as official parties in our great state of North Carolina.

Especially in recent political discourse, we hear the term “democracy” thrown around constantly. We are told that one major party or the other represents a threat to our democracy, or that we should fight for this election because “democracy is on the line.” The truth is, our democracy is only as stable to the degree of trust that our population has in the elected officials who would govern them and the degree to which they are representative of the people.

June 27, 2024 (RALEIGH) – The Libertarian Party of North Carolina (LPNC) is deeply disappointed, though hardly surprised, with the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) decision yesterday to limit the choices of the people of North Carolina in keeping the We the People Party, the Constitution Party, and the Justice for All Party off the ballot in North Carolina.

We resoundingly reject this partisan and anti-American decision that mocks the concept of democracy and destroys any pretense of representative government. Alternate parties and candidates already have a hard enough time working within the rules. This action from the State Board of Elections is just added election interference.

"The NCSBE is another tool in the vast arsenal the Uniparty wields against the majority of North Carolinians," said LPNC chair Ryan Brown. "Right now, the Democrats control the NCSBE, so they're making decisions that benefit their candidates. This is ironic coming from the party that cries about democracy being on the ballot, but not surprising from that same party that arbitrarily only put one candidate on the Presidential preference ballot."

"If independent voters were not prohibited by statute from being appointed to the NC Board of Elections, this decision would likely have been different," stated Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Mike Ross. "If you agree that it is patently unfair to deny over a third of all voters any say in the administration of election law, then you see how important it is that we vote out the status quo."

"Just the Uniparty doing Uniparty things," added LPNC Communications Director Rob Yates. "In all seriousness, along with the Republicans, the Democratic party is the most dangerous threat to democracy in North Carolina, but I'm not worried. They got burned earlier this year in the most humiliating fashion for doing the exact same thing. The Democrats didn't learn their lesson then, or they are willing to eat the fine, but this time I suspect they'll suffer at the ballot box. People are sick of not being represented, they're sick of these hack political games the Uniparty plays to disenfranchise them, and they're sick of the failed Uniparty ignoring them."

The NCSBE left open the possibility of reversing its decision after further investigating the petitions. The LPNC implores the board to stop this partisan game playing and recognize these three parties.
