WakeLP Meetup—Lobbying for Liberty

Discussion of current political events from a Libertarian perspective. Check out the biggest affiliate of the coolest political party in North Carolina (not to mention the fastest-growing party in Wake County). Our regular weekly meeting hosted (this week) by Brad Hessel, WakeLP treasurer.

With the NC General Assembly back in session, it's appropriate to remember Mark Twain's warnings, "No person's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session." (paraphrase) and "There is no distinctively American criminal class save legislatures."

Our meetup this week will feature a special presentation by LPNC Chair Brian Irving, who will review some bills that have already been filed which bear watching. He will also talk about LPNC support for the March 1 Citizens Lobbying Day to End Gerrymandering Now.

The LPNC supports a redistricting process conducted by an independent, nonpartisan agency for all local, state, and federal districts. The process should be open and transparent. It should involve significant public input with the opportunity for citizens to weigh in on proposed district maps.

Libertarians aspire to protect all of your rights, all of the time. Have questions about how we might go about that? Come on by any Wednesday night at the Oak & Dagger…worst case, there’s great food and beer!

Here is an article that summarizes some of the important legislation the NCGA is considering in 2017. And here is a link to info about the Citizens Lobby Day event.
