It is less than a month until fourth quarter! Time seems to accelerate as we begin to approach the holidays and we’ll soon be looking at New Year’s Day 2014 in the rear-view. This past month I was appointed by the Executive Committee of the Libertarian Party of North Carolina to serve as the executive director. I’m honored and ecstatic to be serving in this role to advance the Libertarian Party across our state. The Libertarian Party of Burke County will be conducting their quarterly business meeting at Geppeto’s of Morganton Sunday, July 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the private dining room (601 S. Executive Committee sets regional workshops

The Libertarian Party of North Carolina Executive Committee will be sponsoring a series of regional workshops around the state to conduct political campaign type activities.

These workshops will be held in addition to the committee’s business meetings.

The idea is for the executive committee to conduct some sort of political campaigning activity when we meet, rather than just hear reports. Vice chair Alex Vuchnich proposed this plan. and it was approved at the June 29 Executive Committee meeting.

Buncombe LP organizing, seeking candidates

The Libertarian Party of Buncombe County is growing and we are planning on running candidates in local races in 2013.  We are having an organizational meeting Tuesday, July 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at El Chapala on Merrimon Ave.  The purpose of the meeting will be to organize the county affiliate, discuss potential candidates and garner volunteer support for those candidates.

Annual State Convention Focuses on Growth, Activism

Liberty in action was the theme and focus of the Libertarian Party annual state convention held in Flat Rock over the weekend.

J.J. Summerell, who was reelected state chair, noted that the 50 percent increase in party membership in 2012 can be attributed to the growing dissatisfaction of voters with the Republican and Democratic parties. “A healthy part of that growth can also be attributed to youth groups such as Students for Liberty, which are spreading like wildfire on college campuses,” he added.
