Barbara Howe, Libertarian candidate for governor, fulfilled her pledge to run 5ks in each of North Carolina’s 100 counties today in Raleigh. Joined by local Libertarians she ran a 5K course in downtown Raleigh, beginning at the Legislative Building and ending in front of the Governor’s Mansion.
She had invited the other two gubernatorial candidates to join her, but neither Dalton nor McCrory attended. At the end of the run, Howe held a press conference and rally.
“This 5k run was the fastest time of all the 100 counties and completed in 34:11,” Howe said. She said this was an improvement over the 42:00 she ran when she began the “Running for Liberty” campaign in her hometown of Oxford May 26.
Howe said that her travels around the start really gave her an opportunity to get to know a lot about North Carolina and North Carolinians.
“I learned that people throughout the state pretty much want the same things,” she observed. “They want to live their lives, they want to provide for their families, they want to educate their children. They don’t need government interfering in how they live their lives.”
“I recognize that each individual in North Carolina knows best how to live his or her life, and I will work to support a government that respects that fact,” she said.
