News and Notes
- Onslow County Meeting
The LP of Onslow County announces its first meeting, to be held on
Thursday, March 13. The meeting will take place in Jacksonville, at Shoney's,
463 Western Boulevard, starting at 6:30pm. We hope this will become the
regular time and place for a weekly meeting. Everyone in the Jacksonville
area is invited to come out and have fun meeting other local Libertarians.
For more information, call Matt Tillman at (910)347-2643, or Sean Haugh
at (919)286-0152.
- New Officers in New Hanover County
The LP of New Hanover County elected new officers at their meeting
on February 3rd. The new Chair is Paul Johnson, the Secretary is now Annie
Cizek, and Henry Weyerhaeuser is the new Treasurer. The group is thriving,
meeting every Monday night at Whitey's Restaurant in Wilmington. For how
you can become part of the growing New Hanover County group, you can reach
Paul or Annie at (910)251-8671.
- Start Planning for Tax Day Protests
It's not too early to plan how you will protest at your local post
office on Tuesday, April 15th. Naturally, this has always been the best
day to collect petition signatures, hand out LP literature, and exhort
people to honk if they hate taxes. We're putting togeter our order now
for "Million Dollar Bills" and other literature from the national
office. Please contact Sean Haugh at (919)286-0152 if you are interested
in any Tax Day activities.
- Convention '97, Candidate Seminar, Just around the Corner
Convention organizer Dale Grote reports that plans are falling into
place for the LPNC's annual state convention on Saturday, May 3rd at the
Charlotte Convention Center. This year, we elect a new Executive Committee
to serve for the next two years, and consider any changes in our LPNC Constitution
and By-Laws. The previously planned Candidate Training
Seminar on May 4 has been cancelled.
