Platform Changed; Presidential Straw poll at State Convention
The Libertarian Party of North Carolina held its annual convention
April 23-25 at the Sheraton Imperial Center in RTP. Party members
gathered to conduct official party business, hear some fantastic
speakers, and enjoy each other's company.
Two presidential candidates, Gary Nolan and Aaron Russo, attended
parts of the convention, spoke and spent time with the members
present. Aaron Russo won an unofficial straw poll for presidential
nominee.
The Platform Committee recommended acceptance of planks concerning
marriage, the draft, immigration and social security. The platform of
the LPNC is available here.
Speakers were talk show host Jerry Agar, economist Dr. Paul Cwik,
author Dr. Mary Ruwart, newly elected Libertarian T.J. Rohr of
Lenoir, and Chad Adams of the John Locke Foundation.
Attendees enjoyed a No-Limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament and
silent auction as fundraisers for the LPNC.
Delegates also elected new executive committee members,
presidential electors, and delegates to the national convention to be
held in Atlanta in May. New on the Executive Committee are Susan
Hogarth, newsletter editor, of Raleigh, Alex Vuchnich, Treasurer, also
of Raleigh, and Jon Byers from Wake Forest as Membership Secretary.
