Libertarians Protest Kerry
North Carolina Libertarians won't let Sen. John Kerry, the presumptive
Democratic presidential nominee, get away with passing himself off as a
pro-peace candidate when he visits North Carolina State University this
weekend. They plan to protest his visit and urge support for Michael
Badnarik, the Libertarian candidate for president.
"Instead of ending the cycle of foreign intervention which causes
terrorism, Kerry has called for expanded international involvement and
continued U.S. troop presence in Iraq," said Susan Hogarth, state
coordinator of the Badnarik campaign. "In contrast, Badnarik supports an
immediate end to the U.S. occupation of Iraq and the withdrawal of troops
from every other nation with a U.S. military presence."
"Kerry ought to have learned from Vietnam that internationalization and
escalation will backfire, but he seems to have missed that lesson," added
Hogarth. Libertarians from around the state will demonstrate against
Kerry. They'll be sharing information about the Libertarian presidential
nominee, the only candidate on the North Carolina ballot this year who
opposes U.S. aggression.
"The U.S. government has never succeeded in establishing freedom and
democracy in any of its foreign adventures in the last fifty years," said
Badnarik. "Freedom and democracy are blessings any people must establish
for themselves."
"Here at home, war leads to a decline in civil liberties, higher taxes
and wartime economic measures that blur the line between business and
state, allowing politically favored corporations to profit at the expense
of taxpayers."
NC Libertarians believe Badnarik's message will resonate with anti-war
liberals who want a real choice for a president who will not continue to
grow the new American empire forged by the neoconservatives now in power.
Badnarik recently completed a campaign swing through the state where he
met with supporters throughout the state and raised money and volunteer
support for his campaign.
