The 2007 LPNC Convention will return to the Park Inn Convention Center in Hickory on April 27-29. The theme of this year's convention is "Freedom Train." Please mark your calendars now and plan to board the train.

The convention weekend will be full of business, thoughtful dialogue with fellow libertarians, and fun. The Hickory metro area offers a wealth of interesting sites including the Hickory Art Museum (second oldest in NC) and the Catawba Science Center, so those not involved in business can enjoy a full weekend. Bring the whole family.

Hotel accommodations at the Park Inn will be $75.99 ($68 + 11.75% tax). Call the hotel directly at 1-800-789-0686 to make your reservations. Be sure to mention that you're with the LPNC convention to receive our special rate.

As always, the convention opens Friday evening at the Park Inn with a Friends and Family reception. Come meet old friends and make new ones as people converge on the hotel to get ready for Saturday's business sessions. All Libertarians are welcome to attend this event, whether you plan to attend the convention or not.

This year's business will include voting on the recommendations of the Bylaws Committee and electing a new Executive Committee. The Bylaws Committee is busy at work. The Committee report should be available a couple of weeks prior to the convention.

All positions on the EC are up for election. The Executive Committee does the important work of directing the assets of the LPNC into projects that advance the mission of the party to move North Carolina in a more libertarian direction. Please consider coming to the convention and running for one of these positions of party leadership.

The Committee is still working on speaker arrangements. Eleanor Schockett, a representative from LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition), will address issues surrounding the failed war on drugs and the dangers that war imposes on personal liberty. National Chair Bill Redpath will be the speaker at the annual awards banquet on Saturday evening.

Sunday morning we will have four concurrent workshops on petitioning, campaigning to win, writing effective letters to the editor, and lobbying the General Assembly.

The convention will wrap up with a visit from our new LNC regional representative, former Congressman Bob Barr.
