Halifax Mall in Raleigh, NCCharity Event: Walk ALS Triangle
WHATAmyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS a/k/a Lou Gehrig’s Disease) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular illness that slowly but inexorably robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
WHYPresently there is no known cause of the disease, let alone a cure, so research is a critical need. In the meantime, it costs an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. So providing help there is also a high priority!
HOWThis will be WakeLP’s seventh year of partnering with the Pop’s Party People team on the annual Walk ALS Triangle fundraising event, sponsored by ALS United North Carolina. Together we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by ALS. Our team is committed to raising money to support people in our community with ALS and spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Pop’s Party People have raised over $120,000 to help patients with ALS and to support research to find the cause and cure. Over half of every dollar donated goes to patient services and clinical centers. Another 20% goes to research, 10% to public policy advocacy, and 10% to fundraising.
