Special LPNC Announcement: First victory in LPNC Lawsuit!!!
By Susan Hogarth, Membership Secretary
As you know, The LPNC is spearheading a lawsuit against the Board of Elections aimed at lowering the enormous burden the current ballot
access restrictions place on the LP and other political parties in
North Carolina. Last Thursday Libertarians packed the courtroom for a
hearing on the BoE's motion to dismiss the suit. We have waited
eagerly all week to hear what the judge would decide.
We have now received a copy of the signed order from Judge Hudson
denying the State Board of Elections' motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
This is GREAT NEWS! It means that our arguments will now be placed
upon the table and heard without the extra hassle of an appeal at such
an early stage. Our lawyer and a lawyer for the ACLU will be meeting
with the state's lawyers to get the next stages scheduled. We are
working hard to be able to have the case heard in time for the general
election.
But ... (and I know you know what comes next :)
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Legal work isn't cheap, and we have one of the best
election-law attorneys in the state on our case. The case is just now
getting properly underway - but at least we know now WE WILL BE HEARD
IN COURT! We need you to go right NOW to our secure online giving
site:
And give as much as you can to help the LPNC follow through on this
groundbreaking lawsuit. Help us get election law in North Carolina
'fixed' - one way or another!!
Please make a notation when donating that this is for the lawsuit. If
you'd rather contribute to another of our efforts, such as petitioning
or outreach, please indicate that as well
If you can, make a monthly pledge to help the LPNC meet all its
operating expenses.
pledges are the bread-and-butter of the LPNC's operating budget, and
100% of your pledge goes straight to the LPNC's work in getting the
message of liberty heard in North Carolina.
PS:
There's still time to join us in Burlington if you'd like to celebrate
this victory with the company of fellow Libertarians!! Please consider
driving over for business sessions on Saturday or Sunday - or hop in
your car RIGHT NOW and head on over to share a toast to 'small
victory, with bigger victory in sight'! this evening at the Convention
'06 reception.
See you in Burlington tonight, I hope!!
